PV Desk : Commodore Zulfikar Aziz, Chairman of Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) claimed that the capacity of the port has been multiplied several times but the average time spent by a ship at the port has been reduced to 2.58 days from 2.75 days.
The CPA Chairman came up with the information while speaking at a roundtable, on the occasion of 131st Founding Anniversary of the Port, held at Shaheed Fazlur Rahman Munshi auditorium.
The CPA chairman claimed that the authorities concerned have taken an initiative to build the port as a ‘Useable friend’ centering the Vision-2021 of the government.
Some 2.6 million huge containers and 85 million cargoes have been handled till the month of March this year, he said.
Besides, the work for capital dredging of the port will start in the next one and half months.
“There will be no container and truck tangle and the containers will be shifted to another place after the opening of Bay-terminal. Besides, a truck terminal will be built along it for keeping trucks and prime movers,” he added.
Already the work for constructing Patenga Container Terminal is underway and the work will end by 2019.
