PV Desk : ommerce Minister Tofail Ahmed today said BNP would have to take part in the next parliament election to be held as per the constitution in December this year.
“BNP will have to join the next parliament election . . . any other alternative proposal or demand will not be accepted,” said the ruling Awami League’s advisory council member while speaking at a meeting here today.
Ilish Union unit of Awami League organised the meeting as part of its move to enroll new members.
With Sagir Ahmed Master in the chair the meeting was addressed, among others, by Zilla Parishad chairman Abdul Momin Tulu, upazila Awami League president Md Mosharraf Hossain, general secretary Nazrul Islam Golder, local Awami League leaders Zahurul Islam Nakib, Enamul Haq Arju and Moinul Hossain Biplab.
BNP carried out violence in 2013, tried to foil parliament polls in 2014 and killed people in 2015 in the name of movement, Tofail Ahmed said, adding the party plundered public property and carried out torture on general people when it was in power.
He also asked local Awami League leaders and activists to work at grassroots level and highlight development activities of the government before the people.
He said initiatives have already been taken to build Bhola-Barisal bridge to connect Bhola with Dhaka, he added.
