PV Desk : Former lawmaker and veteran Awami League leader and freedom fighter Mohammad Yusuf of Chittagong died at combined Military Hospital in the capital this morning. He was 69.
Yousuf, who was elected to parliament from his Rangunia constituency on the outskirts of the port city of Chittagong in 1991 general elections, died of old age complications, family and party sources said.
The bachelor Yusuf left behind his two brothers, two sisters and a host of relatives and admirers to mourn his death while his death cast a pall of gloom in political, cultural and social arenas in the city and his constituency.
His younger brother Mohammad Sekandar said the family was yet to chalk up his burial plan.
Yusuf was admitted to Dhaka CMH on January 10 at Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s directives for better treatment.
