PV Desk : Local Government, Rural Development (LGRD) and Cooperatives Minister Engineer Khandker Mosharraf Hossain today said cooperatives will play a vital role in attaining the targets of the development activities being carried out by the present government.
“The nation’s progress is impossible without cooperatives,” the minister said at a view exchange meeting with members of the cooperatives of the division here.
Mymensingh Divisional Cooperatives Office organized the meeting at the district council auditorium with Rural Development and Co-operatives Division Secretary Mafruha Sultana in the chair.
Department of Cooperatives Director General Md Abdul Majid, Mymensingh Divisional Commissioner GM Saleh Uddin and Mymensingh Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md Khalilur Rahman were present in the meeting, among others.
Due to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s intense efforts and commitment, the country has become self-reliant in food, the LGRD minister said, adding that the contribution of cooperatives is 90 per cent in this regard.
Mosharraf stressed on amending the laws relating to cooperatives, if needed, to bring back the glory of cooperatives.
He directed the Department of Cooperatives to formulate a complete outline of training programmes within three to four weeks and asked to start organizing trainings across the country extensively by the next one month.
The minister informed that he would exchange views with members of cooperatives through the divisional offices.
Later the LGRD minister distributed mementos and cash money as the prizes among the cooperatives’ members for contributing in different sectors of the cooperatives.
