PV Desk : People from all over the country on Tuesday welcomed Pahela Falgun, the first day of spring, amidst much fanfare and colorful programmes.
Bakultola of the Faculty of Fine Arts (Charukola) of Dhaka University was the centre point of the festival where hundreds of people of all ages gathered in the morning to celebrate the day by singing songs, reciting poems and dancing.
Jatiya Basanta Utsab Udjapan Parishad organised a cultural programme at Bakultola, which began early in the morning followed by colourful procession, dances and songs and continued up until 10am.
The Parishad has been organising the programme since Bengali year 1401 to celebrate the seasonal festival, said Shafi Ahmed, one of the organisers of the event.
“As nature is fading away from the urban life, we started this practice to welcome the first day of the spring following the tradition of Shantiniketon introduced by Rabindranath Tagore so that people can enjoy and celebrate the day every year and get bound in the bond of love and colours,” he added.
Several more cultural programmes were arranged in the premises of Faculty of Arts and Faculty of Business Studies.
While Dhaka University campus was abuzz with festivity, many more programmes were held all over the country to welcome the new season after the dryness and dullness of winter was over.
Bashanta Utsab and Pitha Utsab were arranged almost in every educational institute to celebrate the very first day of Falgun.
After the dryness of winter, new leaves have started to come out again in Falgun, the eleventh month in the Bengali calendar, and the nature is slowly adorning the branches with new colorful flowers such as Shimul, Polash and Marigold.
And the color from the nature has spread to the hearts of everyone as people were seen embracing the new season in a colorful and festive manner wearing dazzling attire with their dear ones.
