Ex-hockey player Sona Miah dies


PV Sports : Former national hockey player-cum-coach Abdur Razzak Sona Miah, also father of national hockey team captain Rasel Mahmud Jimi, passed away at his Lalbagh residence on Sunday morning due to old-age complications. He was 69.

He breathed his last around 7:45 am, said family sources.

Sona Miah left behind three daughters, two sons and a host of admirers to mourn his death.

His younger son Rakin is also a member of the Under-21 hockey team.

The former hockey player was buried at Azimpur Graveyard following two namaz-e-janazas – one at the Maulana Bhasani National Hockey Stadium after Zohr and 2nd one at Chalkbazar Shahi Masjid after Asr prayers.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh Sports Journalists Association and Bangladesh Sports Press Association expressed their deep shock at the death of Sona Miah.

In separate messages, leaders of the two organisations prayed for salvation of the departed soul and conveyed their sympathy to the bereaved family members.
