PV Desk : Switzerland has expressed its willingness to expand its business and trade in Bangladesh as a big market has already been created following the rise of the consuming capacity of the growing middle class here.
During the talks with the Prime Minister, visiting President of the Swiss Confederation Alain Berset on Monday expressed the willingness to boost up trade and business relation with Bangladesh as it is a growing economy, said Foreign Secretary M Shahidul Haque at a press briefing at the Prime Minister’s Office in the city.
“Many Swiss companies have been working in Bangladesh who have big tendency to expand their business here. The Swiss president also focused on it again and again particularly wanted to say that the consuming capacity of the growing middle class will go up day by day,” the Foreign Secretary said.
Since a big market has been created in Bangladesh, Switzerland wants to come in Bangladesh with their different products, he said.
Switzerland also expressed its willingness to make political level relation with Bangladesh stronger. “We’ve noticed that they want to make the relation at political level stronger,” said Shahidul Haque.
Switzerland played very strong role on Rohingya issue both politically at the UN as well as in bilaterally, he said.
The Foreign Secretary added that the Swiss President also expressed interests to work together with Bangladesh particularly on SDGs, Climate Change and migration issues.
Mentioning that there was a good coalition on migration and climate change between Bangladesh and Switzerland, Alain Berset put emphasis on upholding the coalition and expanding it to some extent over the areas of human mobility, climate changes and human development.
