Beware of books that hurt religious emotion: DMP boss


PV Desk : Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia asked authorities concerned not to publish any books in the Ekushey Book Fair that incite communal hatred or hurt religious sentiments.

He made the request at a press conference on Tuesday (January 30) after visiting security measures taken in and around Bangla Academy premises ahead of the Omor Ekushey Book Fair that will kick off February 1.

The DMP commissioner said there will be a detective team of Bangla Academy for scrutinizing the new books to the fair. Actions will be taken if such inciting books are found.

Mentioning that there will be a coordinated security system in the book fair, he said aside from the fair premises, Dhaka University, Shahbag and Bakshibazar areas will be protected under security radar. A large number of police personnel will be deployed in the whole area. Members of Detective Branch have already started to ensure security.

“SWAT and bomb disposal unit will also be fully prepared to combat any untoward situation during the book fair. The whole area will be sweep with dog squad before the fair begins. The premise will be monitored by hundreds of CCTV camera also.”
