PV Desk : Finance Minister AMA Muhith today underscored the need for providing the National Identity (NID) cards to all people in the country for their inclusion in the database and reaching them relevant services within a short time.
“The government has provided NID to 12 crore people in the country. We will have to take an initiative to include the rest four crore,” he told the International Conference on Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) 2018 at the Sonargaon hotel in the city.
The Cabinet Division organised the three-day conference to show the efforts of realizing the ‘CRVS and Beyond’ (CRVS) model and to share and exchange CRVS related knowledge, experiences, innovations and ideas of different countries.
Among others, Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam spoke on the occasion.
Under the CRVS platform, Muhith said, the government can provide services easily as six information will be available in the platform.
He expressed the hope that all people will come in the mainstream of development through the platform.
“Bangladesh wants to establish a robust and effective CRVS process based on a Unique ID (UID) system and link it with the service delivery process,” Muhith said.
Along with the six components – birth, death, marriage, divorce, adoption and cause of death – the government has also added enrolment in the education system and migration as major components of CRVS in Bangladesh.
CRVS is an opportunity to streamline and synchronize the civil registration process being administered by different government agencies, mainly Office of the Registrar General of Birth and Death Registration, Office of the Inspector General of Registration, Law and Justice Division, Directorate General of Health Services, Health Services Division, with BBS and also to develop a common service platform for the people of the country.
