PV Desk : Visiting special envoy of the French government Pascal Lamy met Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) in Dhaka on Sunday (January 07).
Pascal Lamy, also former director general of the World Trade Organization (WTO), met the PM to seek the support of Bangladesh in favor of the ‘World Expo 2025’.
Four countries want to host the global event. The countries are- France, Japan, Russia and Azerbaijan. The countries submitted their bids to the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE).
Pascal Lamy arrived in Dhaka on Saturday (January 06) on a two-day visit to garner Bangladesh’s support for hosting the global expo.
In the meeting, the French envoy urged Sheikh Hasina to expand Bangladesh support in this regard. The PM told the France envoy to consider the matter, said Prime Minister’s press secretary Ihsanul Karim.
During the meeting, Pascal Lamy explained France’s vision behind candidacy for the ‘World Expo 2025’.
Prime Minister’s principal secretary Md. Nozibur Rahman was also present at the meeting.
The 170 member countries of BIE will elect the host country of the ‘World Expo 2025’ at the 164th General Assembly to be held in November this year.
The theme for the expo is ‘Knowledge Sharing and Protection of the Planet’.
