Playwright Begum Mumtaz passes away


PV Desk : Renowned playwright Begum Mumtaz Hossain, who wrote the popular BTV series ‘Sokal Sondhya’ and ‘Shuktara’, passed away on Thursday (Dec 29). She was 77.
She breathed her last around 9:30pm at the Uttara Crescent Hospital in Dhaka.
Director and producer KM Harum Begum confirmed the death news in a facebook post.
According to family sources, Mumtaz’s namaz-e-janaza was held at an Uttara mosque after Jummah prayer on Friday. Later she was laid to eternal rest at Banani graveyard.
The Begum Rokeya Award-winner Mumtaz also served as the principal of Udayan Higher Secondary School in Dhaka. Her husband former police official Jahangir Hossain died in 1981.
