Bangladesh runs biometric registration for all Rohingyas


PV Desk : All the Rohingyas, who are residing in Bangladesh for decades including the new-arrivals fleeing Myanmar in several occasions, are being registered under biometric registration system.

Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commission-Cox’s Bazar (RRRC) reports that the total number of Rohingya people in Bangladesh stands at 8,39,760, with thousands still crossing the border each day.

Some 6,35,000 Rohingyas have entered Bangladesh since Aug 25, where they have joined more than 2,04,760 who fled in earlier waves of ethnic violence over the past three decades.

A total of 7,15,103 Rohingya refugees including the long-term ones were registered till Thursday (November 30).

Bangladesh Department of Immigration and Passports is operating the registration work in seven camps installed in Ukhia and Teknaf areas, where the Rohingyas have taken shelter after fleeing persecution in Myanmar following an upsurge late August.

However, on Thursday, 12,706 refugees were registered where the number is 10-15 thousands on average each day.
