Alleged Shibir cadre killed in Ctg gunfight


PV Desk : An alleged cadre of Islami Chhatra Shibir also a top terrorist in Chittagong was killed in a shootout with the members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Panchlaish thana area of the city early Thursday (November 30).

The deceased was identified as Mahim, 36.

RAB Chittagong Zone Company Commander Lt Commander Ashiqur Rahman said that acting on tip-off, a RAB team conducted a drive at Rajagonj area of Panclaish to arrest Mahim.

Sensing the presence of the RAB members, Mahim and his cohorts opened fire targeting the law enforcers.

In retaliation, RAB fired back that left Mahim dead.

Three RAB members were also injured in the shootout, said Ashiqur.

Some arms and ammos including an AK-47, a submachine gun (SMG) and two foreign pistols were recovered from the spot, said RAB Chittagong Zone Assistant Director (Media) Mimtanur Rahman.

He was wanted in 18 cases including under murder, robbery and arms acts, added Mimtanur.

Sources said that Mahim served as the Second-in-Command of Sazzad, a renowned Shibir cadre from Chittagong.

Mohammad Mohsin, former Officer-in-Charge of Bayazid Bostami Police Station, now employed in Detective Branch (DB), said that Mahim used to run different types of terror activities in the city including extortion business.
