Women must be brought to main stream : Mosharraf


PV Desk : Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain today said that the women must be brought to main stream for development to turn Bangladesh into a better country.

He stated this while inaugurating the 11th International Women’s SME Expo Bangladesh 2017 at the Railway Stadium of Polo Ground organized by Chittagong Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry here.

State minister for Land Saifuzzaman Chowdhury and Chittagong City Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin addressed the function with President of Chittagong Women’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry Begum Monowara Hakim Ali in the chair.

The LGRD minister said women empowerment is prerequisite for development as women empowerment will speed up the country’s growth, saying without women empowerment, implementation of Vision-2021 and sustainable development target-2030 is impossible.

He said that the incumbent government is women friendly one and giving highest priority on women empowerment by creating entrepreneurship to keep their contribution to make the country a middle-income one.

The minister said that there are more than 70 lakh small and medium industries in the country while 70 to 80 percent of the country’s labor force working in these sector.

He urged the women for making them self-reliant by involving themselves in handicrafts, boutiques, poultry, garments and agricultural sectors.

A total of 15-pavilion along with 300 stalls erected by domestic and foreign women entrepreneurs. Women entrepreneurs from different countries including India, Pakistan and Iran are participating the expo.
