Imran gets bail again after surrendering to court

Imran H Sarker

PV Desk : Ganajagaran Mancha spokesperson Imran H Sarker has secured bail in a case over alleged derogatory comments regarding the prime minister during a protest against the removal of a statue from the Supreme Court premises.

The Dhaka First Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court set the bond at Tk 10,000 after Sarker surrendered to the court on Wednesday.

The court had issued arrest warrants against Sarker on Oct 26 for the second time after he failed to appear at an indictment hearing.

Ganajagaran Mancha activist Sanatan Ullash, who was also accused in the case, was granted a petition for more time by the judge that same day.

The same court had issued warrants against Sarker and Ullash on Sept 20 after they failed to attend a hearing. The two surrendered to court the following day and received bail. The judge then set the indictment hearing for Oct 26.

Sarker and Ullash are accused of making derogatory comments on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in a case started by Golam Rabbani, a leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League, the student wing of the ruling Awami League on May 31.
