Ragib Ali, his son freed on bail


PV Desk : Industrialist Ragib Ali and his son Abdul Hye, both convicted of forging legal papers for grabbing an endowed land of Tarapur Tea Estate in Sylhet, were freed on bail on Sunday (October 29).
They walked out of Sylhet Central Jail at about 1:15 pm, about 11 months after their detention and getting bail from the higher court in all the cases filed against them.
Senior jailer of Sylhet Central Jail Md Abdul Jalil confirmed the matter to the Banglanews.
Officials and employees of different institutions owned by Ragib Ali received them in the jail with flowers.
The Supreme Court on Thursday (October 26) upheld the High Court order that granted bail to Ragib Ali and his son in the Tarapur Tea Estate case. The SC bail order in the case unlocked the legal bar for Ragib Ali and his son to get released from the prison.
A four member bench of the Appellate Division of the apex court headed by Acting Chief Justice Md Abdul Wahhab Miah upheld the convicts’ bail dismissing a leave to appeal petition filed by the government challenging the HC order.
A Sylhet court on February 2 this year awarded six years’ rigorous imprisonment to the father and the son for in the Tarapur Tea Estate case.
