Two, including patient, killed in Sitakunda ambulance crash

PV Desk : Two people, including a cancer patient, have been killed and another four injured in an ambulance accident in Chittagong’s Sitakunda.

The accident occurred on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway in the Darogahat area early on Thursday, said Highway Police Kumira Outpost SI Jahangir Hossain.

“The ambulance was headed from Dhaka to Chittagong. The drowsy driver crashed into a heavy vehicle from behind.”

Police have not been able to find the heavy vehicle, Jahangir told bdnews24.com.

Fire service personnel were dispatched to the scene, rescued six from the crash and sent them to the Sitakunda Medical Complex.

The doctors on duty at the hospital declared ambulance driver Md Sanaullah, 34, and patient Akkas Miah, 65, dead.

Akkas’s wife Rani Begum, 58, son Md Jahid, 27, sister Halima Begum, 45, and driver’s assistant Md Ismail, 22, were transferred to Chittagong Medical College Hospital, said Sitakunda Fire Service Station Officer Wasi Azad.
