PV Desk : Metropolitan Detective Police detained three people smuggling in 9 kilograms of gold from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) after they left Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
The suspects were identified as Farooq Ahmed, 38, Mir Hossain, 28, and Md Shahin, 21.
The three were arrested as they left the airport on Thursday night, said Metropolitan Detective Police Deputy Commissioner (Media) Md Masudur Rahman. A search found the three were carrying 80 gold bars, weighing in at 9.33kg.
They entered Dhaka aboard a Regent Airways flight from the UAE on Wednesday night, said Metropolitan Detective Police Deputy Commissioner (North) Sheikh Nazmul Alam.
The estimated market value of the gold is Tk 45 million, he said.
Police did not offer details on the suspects’ identities or how they managed to slip past airport security.
