PV Desk : A team of 10 government officials led by the Attorney General Mahbubey Alam is preparing the review petition against the Supreme Court verdict that scrapped the 16th amendment to the constitution.
The Appellate Division of the SC upheld a High Court verdict that scrapped the 16th amendment to the constitution which had empowered the parliament to remove SC judges for incapacity or misconduct.
The government will file the review petition against some observations of the verdict.
Attorney General Mahbubey Alam said “the team is formed with 10 people including me, two additional attorney generals and seven others. We are working long hours in the library to prepare the review petition. It will be ready soon.”
After the receiving the copy of the full verdict on Oct 11, the AG said the review petition will be filed within 30 days from receiving the full verdict as per rules.
On August 1, the apex court released the full text of its verdict, scrapping the 16th amendment to the constitution.
