PV Desk : The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Thursday upheld its previous order staying the bail to ruling Awami League lawmaker from Tangail-3 constituency Amanur Rahman Khan Rana, granted by the High Court in Faruk Ahmed murder case.
A four-member bench of the Appellate Division led by Acting Chief Justice Abdul Wahhab Miah asked the authorities concerned to dispose of the rule issued by the High Court within December 14 during a hearing on leave-to-appeal petition against the bail.
Barrister Rokonuddin Mahmud and Mostafizur Rahman Khan stood for Rana while Attorney General Mahbubey Alam represented the state.
Mostafizur Rahman, a counsel of Rana, said Rana is now undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital and as the court stayed the bail of Rana he will remain in prison.
On April 13, an HC bench granted bail to MP Rana in the case. The HC also issued a rule asked the government to explain as to why MP Rana should not be granted bail.
However, a Chamber Justice of the SC, on April 18, stayed the High Court order till May 8.
