RAB cordons off suspected militant den at Mirpur


PV Desk : Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has cordoned off a building in Darussalam area of Mirpur in Dhaka on early Tuesday (Sep 4) suspecting it to be a militant den.
In a press briefing on Tuesday morning (Sep 5), commander Mufti Mahmud Khan, director of RAB legal and media wing, said they have made contact with the militant suspects sheltering inside the house and asked them to surrender.
The owner of the building 2/3/B is identified as Habibullah Bahar Azad who was an employee of T&T. The militants are believed to have been sheltering in the fifth floor of the building, he added.
Mufti Mahmud Khan also said that, earlier on Monday evening, another suspected militant den in Tangail was raided and two militants were detained. From the information extracted from them, RAB conducted the operation at Mirpur.
In the meantime, sound of two gunshots was heard at 3:19 am. One local resident, Sazedul Huq Ratan, told Banglanews that the neighbors are in panic mood after hearing strident sound of some sort of gunfire that started around 1:00am.
Another local, Mamun, said RAB members have evacuated the residents of the building and nearby houses after the operation had launched.
