Rupa’s body exhumed


PV Desk : The body of Rupa Pramanik who was killed following gang-rape on a moving bus was exhumed from Tangail Central Graveyard on Thursday (August 31).
The body was exhumed to handover it to the family members as Rupa’s body was buried as unclaimed.
The body was exhumed from the graveyard in presence of executive magistrate of Tangail Abdur Rahim Sujon in the afternoon. Rupa’s brother Hafizul Islam exhumed her younger sister’s body from the grave. Later, the body was handed over to him.
There have been strong reactions to the brutal gang-rape and murder of Rupa.
She was gang-raped by five men. The accused are driver of the bus of Chhoa Paribahan Habib, 45, bus supervisor Safar Ali, 55, driver’s assistant Shamim, 26, Akram, 35, and Jahangir, 19. Shamim, Akram and Jahangir confessed to the police that they raped and killed Rupa.
Rupa, daughter of late Jilhas Pramanik of Asanbari village under Tarash upazila in Sirajganj, was on her way to Mymensingh on that fateful night after taking an exam for non-government teachers in Bogra.
