Put pressure on Myanmar: PM to US


PV Desk : Bangladesh has called on the US to put pressure on Myanmar to stop the influx of Rohingyas amid an outbreak of fresh violence in Rakhine state.Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s call came during her meeting with visiting US Acting Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asian Affairs Alice Wells.
The PM’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed the media after Wells called on Hasina at her office on Wednesday.
“The prime minister told the acting assistant secretary that Bangladesh has given shelter to them on humanitarian grounds, but it’s now a big problem for us,” Karim said.
Violence broke out in parts of the Myanmar border state of Rakhine following militant attacks on 30 police posts and an army camp on Aug 24. A total of 108 have been killed in the attack and the subsequent violence, including 12 members of the Myanmar security forces.
