PV Desk : The International Maritime Organization (IMO) assured Bangladesh of its allout support for exploring shipping sector potentialities.
The assurance came when IMO Secretary General Kitack Lim called on President M Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban here today.
“Bangladesh is an important member of the IMO and it has huge potential in the shipping sector,” President’s Press Secretary Mohammad Joynal Abedin quoted the IMO secretary general as saying.
Lim lauded the progress of Bangladesh’s Marine Training Academy and its shipbuilding industry, he added.
Welcoming Lim to Bangabhaban, Abdul Hamid said Bangladesh is now constructing inland vessels, sea-going ships and offshore patrolling vessels maintaining international standard.
Noting that Bangladesh has a good number of facilities to train marine cadets onshore and also enough trained naval crew, he sought cooperation of the IMO to create more job opportunities for marine cadets from Bangladesh as midshipmen in foreign vessels.
