Court orders govt to explain private medical college fees

PV Desk : The High Court has ordered the government to explain why an order fixing admission fees for private medical colleges will not be declared illegal.
According to a 2014 health ministry order, the fees for admission to MBBS and BDS courses offered by private medical and dental colleges are Tk 1.99 million.
The health secretary, the chief of the Directorate General of Health Services, Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council, Dhaka University vice chancellor and the board of Dhaka National Medical College have been instructed to explain the issue in four weeks.
Tuesday’s court order came after the initial hearing of a petition filed by a Supreme Court lawyer.
Petitioner Younus Ali Akhand claimed that the 2014 government order contradicts the constitution.
