PV International Desk : Some 48 militants were killed after the Afghan army, police and intelligence agency personnel launched wide-scale operations against militants within the past 24 hours, the Defense Ministry said on Monday.
Up to 29 militants were injured and four others were detained during the raids carried out in 11 of the country’s 34 provinces, the ministry said in a statement.
The joint Afghan forces also destroyed four militants’ vehicles, 10
motorcycles together with weapons and ammunition, the statement said, adding that the Afghan air force conducted 101 surveillance and supportive flights and launched 11 airstrikes against militants’ hideouts over the period.
Violence has been on the rise as the Afghan security forces struggled to curb a surge in attacks by anti-government fighters since the drawdown of foreign forces over the past two years.
On Sunday, 13 people were killed and several others wounded after a Taliban suicide car bombing struck an army convoy in southern Helmand province.
