HC announces verdict in Naraynganj 7 murders case

PV Desk : The High Court is announcing its decision on the appeal of the Narayanganj 7-murders case.
Justices Bhabani Prasad Singha and Mustafa Zaman Islam began the announcement at 10:30am.
A Narayanganj court gave the death sentence to 26 and various prison terms to nine others in the case. An appeal was then heard at the High Court.
Though Aug 13 had initially been set as the date for the verdict on the appeal and death reference, the justices deferred the decision.
“It has been delayed because the decision is not yet ready,” defence counsel Mansurul Haq Chowdhury had said.
Death sentences issued by trial courts are forwarded for approval to the High Court as ‘death references’.
Seven murder case
The abduction and gruesome killing of seven people, including councillor Nazrul Islam and senior lawyer Chandan Kumar Sarkar from Narayanganj three years ago shocked the nation.
The news later made international headlines when it emerged that members of the elite police unit the Rapid Action Battalion or RAB, were involved in the killings.
