Political, social pledge needed to eradicate militancy: IGP


PV Desk : Putting emphasis on political and social pledge to eradicate militancy, Inspector General of Police A K M Shahidul Hoque said on Monday it is not possible to completely eliminate militancy without social commitment.
The IGP said this while addressing the final of the 8th National Debate Competition on “The Role of Social Commitments in the Prevention of Militancy” organized by Debate for Democracy in association with Brac and ATN Bangla at Bangladesh Film Development Corporation.
“Youths are being used for carrying out militant activities through misinterpretation of religion. We must help them to know the proper explanation of religion to eliminate militancy,” he said adding awareness campaign will be continued at every level of society.
“If the party in power is sincere, the administration will sincerely work to curb militancy. The opposition parties have to work as pressure group. Only then will it be possible to eliminate militancy,” he said.
IGP also urged everyone to wage a social movement against the curse of militancy.
