Tax payers for end to audit hassle


PV Report : The tax payers demanded an end to harassment of income tax audit on excuse of revelations. Enactment of laws is not sufficient untill and unless such harassment is not stopped.
The tax payers opined this while speaking at a seminar titled ‘new income tax law: Mass expectation’ organized by the National Board of Revenue held at World Trade Center on Saturday.
City Mayor AJM Nasiruddin graced the occasion as the chief guest. NBR Member Parvez Iqbal presided.
City Mayor said affluent section should come forward in paying tax. Bangladesh has reached at this stage due to cooperation of all. Initiative to enact laws is significant, he added.
Chittagong Chamber President Mahbubul Alam said the officials audited files through revelations which caused sufferings to the tax payers. He stressed congenial atmosphere so that the businessmen could pay their taxes without any trouble.
Chittagong Range DIG Md. Maniruzzaman said rate of tax is enhanced for those who pay tax instead of increasing extent of tax. But services to the tax payers should be increased, he added.
The meeting was spoken of, among others, by NBR (VAT) Member Barrister Jahangir Hossain, Md. Abdur Rauf, USTC VC Prof. Pravhat Chandra Barua, CMP Commissioner Md. Iqbal Bahar and educationist Prof. Dr. Selim Uddin.
