PV Report : Plying of ships at the estuary of Chittagong port was disrupted as a cement laden foreign clinker ship got stuck in sand at the point on Tuesday.
Sources said bottom of the ship was buried in sand while entering the jetty from the outer anchorage in the afternoon. As a result, other ships are unable to enter the port jetty via main channel.
Chittagong Port Board Member( Admn) Jafar Alam said depth of water where the ship is stuck is very minimal. Efforts were made to free the ship during high stream but to no affect, he added.
Port sources said another ship laden with steel sheet returned to the outer anchorage as it failed to enter the port jetty due to the problem.
Harbour Master Captain Md. Farid said efforts to recover the 136-meter Vietnamese flag carrier are going on.
