Signal 3 for maritime ports as depression forms over Bay

PV Desk : Maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to hoist local cautionary signal number three as depression has formed over Northwest and adjoining West-Central bay, said Bangladesh Metrological Department (BMD) in its special weather bulletin today.

All fishing boats and trawlers in North Bay and deep sea have been advised to come close to the coast and proceed with caution. They have been also advised not to venture into deep sea.

The low over Northwest bay off Odisha-West Bengal coast intensified into a well marked low over Northwest bay and adjoining West Central bay and adjoining areas of coastal Odisha. It has further intensified into a depression at 06 AM today over the same area. Under its influence steep pressure gradiant persists over North Bay.

“It (depression) is centered at about 740 kms west-southwest of Chittagong port, 715 kms west-southwest of Cox’s Bazar port, 555 kms southwest of Mongla port and 580 kms southwest of Payra port,” it said.

It was likely to move in a west-northwesterly direction and may cross Odisha coast near Puri by tonight, said the bulletin.
