PV Desk : Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena today began his three-day state visit to Bangladesh by paying tributes to the martyred freedom fighters and Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Sirisena, who arrived here this morning, went to National Memorial at Savar on the outskirts of the capital to pay homage to the freedom fighters, who embraced martyrdom during the country’s Great War of Independence in 1971.
On his arrival at the memorial complex at about 3.40 pm, the Sri Lankan President was received by Housing and Public Works Minister Engineer Moasharraf Hossain, Liberation War Affairs Minister A K M Mozammel Haque and General Officer Commanding of 9th Infantry Division Major General Md. Akbar Hossain.
A smartly turned out contingent of three services presented a guard of honour to the Sri Lankan President. Later, he placed a floral wreath at National Memorial to pay tribute to the martyred freedom fighters
