PV Desk : The penal members of a probe committee formed in the backdrop of massive landslides in Chittagong Hill Tract has recommended preventing construction of different structures in risky hilly areas to avoid fatalities.
The 27-member committee yesterday started working to identify the causes behind the recent landslides and frame recommendations for chalking out what to be done in the coming days to stop landslides in the hilly areas.
Five members of the committee said this while talking to journalists on their way to Bandarban from Chittagong this morning.
Associate Professor of Geography and Environmental Science Department of Chittagong University Abdul Hoque, one of the panel members of the committee, said a hill management team based on geological survey should be set up in each district of the CHT to avoid landslide.
“We have no geological survey of the hills and we do not know anything about the internal structures of residence built in hilly areas,” he said.
The team itself will not be able to stop construction of structures in risky hill slopes if local influential people are not controlled by the government, added Hoque.
