Compensation for teen struck by live wire

PV Desk : The High Court has ordered authorities to pay Tk 5 million in compensation to a teenager, who lost his hands after getting caught in a live wire that broke during a storm.

The Rural Electrification Board or REB has been told to pay the compensation within 30 days after receiving the order.

On Apr 5, Siam Khan got caught in a power cable in a Shariyatpur village, which broke during a storm the previous day.

He was rushed to the state-run hospital in Shariyatpur town and later transferred to the burns unit of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Following two rounds of surgeries, the doctors had to amputate both his wrists due to infections.

The court’s order came on Tuesday following the disposal of a rule which was issued after a Supreme Court lawyer filed a petition on May 9.
