PV Desk : Banned Islamist outfit JMB’s Dhaka Metropolitan chief, who is a wealthy garment factory owner, has been arrested along with his driver by RAB from Narayanganj.
The Rapid Action Battalion arrested Imran Ahmed and Shamim Mia in Rupganj Upazila of Narayanganj on Saturday night.
Imran, managing director of Zemtex Linkage Industries Limited, was a Majlish-e-Sura member of the Sarwar-Tamim group of JMB while Shamim was his chauffeur, said RAB.
Imran, who owns massive wealth, have confessed to funding the militant outfit to purchase arms and explosives, RAB Director (media wing) Mufti Mahmud Khan told a press briefing at RAB’s media centre on Sunday.
He was also serving as the chief of JMB’s Dhaka metropolitan unit (Gulshan-Banani-Mirpur).
RAB picked them from a house in Narayanganj’s Rupganj on Saturday night and seized a firearm, two bullets and some jihadi books from them.
Imran was active in preaching militant ideologies in 10 districts including Chittagong, Bogra, Comilla, Cox’s Bazar and Rajshahi.
