PV Desk : Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali has said that Bangladesh is “aware” of Qatar-Saudi Arabia row, but refrained from discussing details.
He was briefing press on Sunday on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Sweden visit on June 15 and 16.
Replying to a question on the Qatar-Saudi Arabia fracas, the foreign minister only said “we are aware of it”.
Bangladesh, which pursues ‘friendship with all, malice towards none’ foreign policy faces a new dilemma if the tension between Saudi Arabia and Qatar spirals.
Bangladesh maintains strong relations with both Qatar and Saudi Arabia, as both countries are major destinations for Bangladeshi workers.
Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain severed their ties with Qatar on June 5, accusing it of supporting terrorism.
They also accused Qatar of backing militant groups — some backed by regional arch-rival Iran — and broadcasting their ideology, an apparent reference to Qatar’s influential state-owned satellite channel Al Jazeera.
