62 Chinese SMGs, 49 mortar shells recovered in Narayanganj


PV Desk : Law enforcers conducted a drive and recovered huge firearms and ammunitions from Rupganj upazila of Narayanganj on early Friday (June 2).

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Detective Branch (DB) police-Narayanganj Mahamudul Islam said that district DB police and Rupganj thana police jointly conducted the drive at Rajuk Purbachal Uposhohor in Gutiabo area under Rupganj, from early hours to 10:30 am.

IGP (Inspector General of Police) AKM Shahidul Haque said at a press briefing that there are 62 Chinese SMGs, five 7.62 pistols, two rocket launchers, two wirelesses, 49 mortar shells and huge bullets among the recovered arms and ammunitions.

“A vested quarter stored the arms intending to carry out subversive activities with a vow to obstruct the development in Bangladesh”, said IGP Shahidul.

However, the matter will be investigated, he said.

Earlier, the law enforcers conducted the drives in Purbachal Uposhohor area, following information from one Sharif Mia, who was earlier detained from Chashara area on Wednesday (May 31), said OC Mahamudul Islam.

Rupganj police station officer-in-charge (OC) Ismail Hossain said that, acting on tip-off, police on Tuesday (May 30) conducted a raid at the house of one Sharif Mia, in Daudpur union under the upazila. Sensing presence of the law enforcers, Sharif fled from scene.
