Court summons Imran for ‘derogatory comments’ on PM

PV Desk : A Dhaka court has summoned Imran H Sarker, spokesperson for Ganajagaran Mancha, over a case for ‘making derogatory comments’ on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The allegation stems from a slogan chanted against Hasina from a rally to protest the removal of the Lady Justice statue from the Supreme Court premises on Thursday. Imran headed the protest rally at Dhaka’s Shahbagh on Friday.

The ruling Awami League’s student wing Bangladesh Chhatra League has slated Imran for the slogan.

Golam Rabbani, secretary of education and readers’ circle of Chhatra League, started the case against Imran and Ganajagaran Mancha activist Sanatan Ullash.

Imran and Sanatan face an order to appear in court on Jun 16.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate SM Masud Zaman passed the order on Wednesday, said the plaintiff’s lawyer Noman Hossain Talukder.

The derogatory comments on the prime minister have offended Rabbani who believes in the ideology of Awami League and its founder Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, he said.
