PV Desk : The apex court on Tuesday (May 30) has stayed the High Court order that halted the government’s decision on hiking gas price from June 1 in the second phase.
Chamber Judge of the Appellate Division Justice Syeed Mahmud Hossain passed the order following a petition filed by Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) seeking a stay on the HC order.
The Court also fixed June 5 (Monday) for holding a full appeal bench hearing on this.
Earlier on February 23, BERC chairman Manwar Islam announced the decision to hike gas price in two phrases at a press briefing in city’s Karwan Bazar BERC building.
According to BERC announcement, households using single burners would have to pay Tk 750 from March which would be raised to Tk 900 from June and households using double burners would have to pay Tk 800 from March which would be raised to Tk 950 from June.
