‘Bangabandhu Satellite’ to be launched in Dec

State minister for post and telecommunications Tarana Halim on Monday (May 29) said that all the preparations have been completed to launch the ‘Bangabandhu Satellite’ in the beginning or end of December.

She said this while speaking at a press conference at her office at Bangladesh Secretariat.

The satellite will be launched from Florida state of the USA, said the state minister.

Earlier on April 17, Tarana Halim handed over a replica of the satellite to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The satellite will be launched in order to ensure better telecommunication services in the country.

Bangladesh took a lease of orbital slot 119.1° from Russia. The opportunity has come through an agreement inked between Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) and Intersputnik International Organization of Space Communications of Russia on January 15 in 2016.

The country would get 40 transponders through the satellite. Of those, 26 are KU Band and 14 are C Band. Bangladesh will primarily use 20 transponders and the rest will be rented.
