Minister for Railways Md Mujibul Haque today said all districts of the country would be brought under railway communication in phases.
“The railway sector was neglected during the BNP period, but the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid attention to this sector and opened Ministry of Railways on December 4, 2011,” he said this at the inaugural function of Amnura railway station and bypass here.
Acting Secretary of the ministry Md Mofazzel Hossain presided over the function.
It was addressed, among others, by Md Abdul Wadud MP, Golam Mostofa Biswas MP, former MP Md Ziaur Rahman and Additional Director General of Bangladesh Railway Kazi M Rafiqul Alam.
The minister also said development budget for the railway sector has been increased to Taka 11,500 crore from Taka 500 crore.
He informed that 270 coaches and 46 engines have been brought and more coaches and engines would be brought within a few months. A project to extend railway to Sonamasjid Land Port has also been taken.
